Hellstar Clothing: History, Founders and How the Brand Got Famous
Hellstar is one of the fastest-growing streetwear brands of the last few years. It started in Los Angeles in 2020, and within a few years its drops were selling out in minutes. If you’ve seen the faded graphic tees and heavy hoodies and wondered where they came from, this is the full Hellstar story.
Who Founded Hellstar?
Hellstar was co-founded by graphic designer Sean “Seanie” Holland and his friend Joseph “Juice” Pendleton. Holland has also joked that everyone wants to go to Heaven, but nobody wants to die.
How Hellstar Started
The brand launched during lockdown, so it grew online first. There was no big retail push, just strong graphics and a clear point of view. Early on, rapper Ken Carson appeared in a Hellstar campaign. In 2021, Holland designed a tour merch for Metro Boomin, and it sold out almost instantly.
Those music connections gave Hellstar credibility with the people who decide what’s cool, long before most shoppers had heard the name.
Why Hellstar Became So Popular
Limited capsule drops. Hellstar releases clothing in capsules, which are limited collections that are not restocked. Once a piece sells out, it’s gone. That scarcity makes people act fast.
The $2 million moment. About three years ago, the brand’s tenth capsule made $2 million in just 30 minutes. Holland shared the order numbers on Instagram Stories, fans did the math, and the figure became part of Hellstar’s internet legend.
A recognizable look. Hellstar tees and hoodies are heavy, oversized and usually have a faded, vintage-style print. You can spot one from across the street.
Price and exclusivity. Tees start around $120 and hoodies sell for about $200 on the official site, which keeps Hellstar in premium streetwear territory.
Fakes and Copycats
Success has a downside. Hellstar has to deal with a lot of fake products. Holland sees it as proof that the brand made an impact, but buyers should be careful. Buy from the official website or listed stockists, and be suspicious of any price that looks too good to be true.
Hellstar Sports and Collaborations
Hellstar is more than clothing. Its Hellstar Sports program runs 7-on-7 football teams, mostly with players from LA County. Holland’s idea was to imagine if Supreme had a football team you could play on in high school.
The brand also works with bigger names. Its site currently carries a Hellstar x Adidas line of track jackets, pants and tees. The latest major project is a Tupac collection for ComplexCon 2026, created with Interscope Records and the Shakur Estate.
Hellstar Today
Six years in, Hellstar’s website is organized into Capsules, Studios and Sports. It has grown from a lockdown side project into a label with its own football program, major collaborations and a long list of imitators. The real test now is whether it can keep its edge as it gets bigger
